Guitar Extravaganza

Guitar Extravaganza was an inspiration generated at the Friday night old time jam session inside Historic Todd General Store, a meeting place for outstanding musicians from northwest North Carolina, southwest Virginia and eastern Tennessee.
The vision was to bring four extraordinary guitarists and friends together to put on a live show for the July 4, 2002, Todd Summer Music Series: National Heritage Award Winner Wayne Henderson, known worldwide for his pinch-picking guitar style, Steve Lewis winner of countless major guitar and banjo competitions, Steve Kilby, former North Carolina state guitar champion, and Randy Greer, award-winning mandolin player and guitarist. Without hesitation, they all agreed to participate, and Guitar Extravaganza was on.
It's truly astounding that four musicians of this magnitude live within an hour's drive of each other. The unassuming foursome brought their Henderson guitars and delighted the enthusiastic crowd with a variety of tunes generating hot licks from flying fingers and producing sounds seldom heard from a strictly guitar venue. The masses responded with standing ovations and ebullient cheers. As you will be able to distinguish, all four performers have cultivated individuality within their playing styles while giving credit to Doc Watson as the man who influenced them during their years of development.
It was evident that four old friends having a good time playing and cutting up were inclined to give a fabulous concert. Thank goodness that Steve Kilby had the foresight to tape the event to be enjoyed by all through this CD.
